Attack Dreams

There are three types of dreams that come from God's enemies. They are all attacks of some kind, so I call them attack dreams.

1. Open Attack Dreams

In these dreams, you know you are being attacked. Shortly after I gave God permission to speak to me through dreams, I had a dream in which I saw a shadowy face close up, looking at me. It had a nasty smile, and it was meant to intimidate me. The intention was that I would change my mind about allowing God to speak to me through dreams. I remembered what the Bible says, "Resist the devil and he will flee from you." James 4:7.

2. Temptation Dreams

Just as you can be tempted to sin during your waking hours, you can be tempted in your dreams. And just the same, you should resist the temptation, or you will leave yourself open to further demonic influence. In my experience, these dreams often occur just after I have done something worthwhile for the kingdom of God. In other words, they have been some sort of counterattack. There are other occasions when the enemy seems to be fishing. In other words, they are trying random things in the hope that I might respond to something in which I have never previously shown any interest. Here is an example:

This dream happened a few nights after the one mentioned above. I was at a seaside resort, standing on a jetty up above the beach. There was a restaurant on the jetty, and a sleazy man, obviously the owner, was watching me as I looked around. There was good food, a beautiful sunset, and a band was playing relaxing music. It was just like being on a wonderful tropical vacation. He called me over to the rail, and I looked down at the beach. There was a young woman being held by about a dozen men. They weren't doing anything, but it was obvious what was being offered to me. If the devil can't intimidate you, he'll try to buy you. Remember what Jesus said, "What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his soul?"

Later temptation dreams have not been in the form of propositions. For instance, in one dream I was in a cinema, and the screen started showing orgasmic scenes. I looked away, but everywhere I looked there were more of them. I tried to wake up, but couldn't. I realised that this was no ordinary dream, but an intense spiritual attack, so I said, " I rebuke you in the name of Jesus Christ!" The dream ended. This dream occurred just after I had achieved something for the Lord.

One night I had a temptation dream, and for a few moments I indulged in the tempting thoughts. The Lord chose this night to bring home to me the reality of the spirit realm's involvement in these dreams, and the danger of giving in. Suddenly I was pinned to the bed by an unseen being, and I couldn't move. There was a strong sense of the presence of evil. I tried to say, "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus Christ", but I could hardly speak. I forced the words out, and they sounded heavily distorted. My voice hardly worked at all! I said it several times, and then the evil presence left. Then I immediately had a dream: my room was lit up, and I could see a black spider upside down on the floor. It was the size of a dinner plate, and its legs were kicking. I have never woken up so fast in my life! I spent the rest of the night with the light on, and I did a lot of repenting and praying. Thank God that in Christ Jesus we have the victory! Evil cannot rule over us unless we allow it to.

Last night, and this is the dream that prompted me to write this article, I had a fishing dream. By that I mean the attack was a bit of fishing by the enemy. I saw a cartoon in which there were various people, but one was a guy with cow eyes. His eyes were so gorgeous that I felt a temptation to fall in love with him. This is not my usual inclination, so I recognized the dream as an attack dream, and woke up. How many people have been lured into darkness by fishing dreams like this one?

Some temptation dreams can involve someone you know. The enemy is actually trying to set you up as a bomb! Instead of just getting one person involved in sin, the demons prefer to set someone up as a bomb so that they can hurt many people at once. When people are hurt, they are more vulnerable to all sorts of demonic influence. Common bombs are sexual assault, physical assault, adultery (leading to the destruction of a family through divorce), drink driving (causing an accident which injures or kills), and embezzlement (sometimes set up by a gamblng demon). If the bomb is a church leader, the explosion is of a much greater magnitude. Suicide is also a potent bomb. Demons work as teams to set these bombs up: they are hardly ever the work of just one demon. This info has come from Earthquake Kelley's book, "Born to Lose, Destined to Win". His book gets my vote as the most remarkable autobiography ever!

3. Lying Dreams

In some dreams you will simply be lied to. For instance, just after I looked up some websites that were critical of Christian prophets (they were not true critics, but only venom-spitters, as it turned out), I had the following dream: I was in a house built for the tropics, and I was on the first floor. As I watched, the shifty-looking fellow who owned it made some deals, picked up goods, had conversations with people, went out and came back. Eventually, he turned to me and said, "There is no God!" Then I realised that this was an attack dream. The enemy had guessed from my internet search, wrongly, that my faith was weakening! So they had sent me an Atheism dream!

Another type of lying dream is the false prophetic dream. There was an announcement at our church that we would be going through the Christianity Explored course. I had a dream in which I heard two people talking: "Something amazing happened at Christanity Explained." "What?" "Jesus turned up!" I didn't say anything to anybody because I saw the mistake in the name. It's supposed to be 'Explored', not 'Explained'! I could have destroyed my prophetic ministry by announcing a false prophecy right at the outset!

I hope this article helps you to successfully resist the attacks of the enemy, even when you're asleep!

Colors in dreams

Positive: holiness, spirituality, peace. Some examples: the saints in heaven, as depicted in Revelation, are dressed in white. When I first started to receive dreams from the Lord, I saw a white car. Water was being put into the fuel tank. Yes, water! Even when it was full, the water kept on flowing, gushing out past the nozzle.

Negative: religious pretense. Some examples: Jesus said the pharisees were white-washed tombs: gleaming on the outside, full of dead men's bones on the inside. The white mice who try to persuade us that the gospel must be watered down, or no-one will accept it. These same white mice try to make us fear the gift of prophecy. When I saw them in a dream, they were white. They then transformed into grey rats, reflecting the fact that they use false arguments! Actually, they looked brown, but when I looked up the type on the internet, the correct term is "grey rat"!

Since I first published this article I have seen the color grey (gray) in a number of dreams, and now I think its usual meaning is this: the grey person or thing is difficult to spot! This is a neutral characteristic, and it can apply to a positive thing (you can be kind without being noticed) or a negative thing (for instance, the grey rats in the dream mentioned above).

Positive: redemption. Some people have been shown warrior angels dressed in silver armor.

Negative: treachery, or legalism. An example: Judas Iscariot was paid in silver.

Positive: Glory, purity. Gold is the noblest of metals. It doesn't tarnish, and it refuses to form a compound with any other element. An example: the Temple of Solomon had gold on the walls, etc.

Negative: Greed, idolatry, defilement. Some examples: the golden calf in Exodus. I saw some money spiders in a dream, and they were the size of an Aussie $2 coin, and they looked one. There were about 20 of them, and they scurried along the ground and stood next to my shoe. They were waiting for me to get worried about money: then they would be able to climb up!

Positive: mind, hope, gift of God. For example, in a dream I was sitting in a yellow sports car in a parking lot, and a girl was in the car with me. Behind the car there was another girl. She was pushing on the back of our car, saying, "You're in the way!" Meaning: both girls represent churches, and the car represents my ministry, yellow because it is a gift from God. One church doesn't comprehend, and opposes us.

Negative: Fear, cowardice. For instance, I dreamt that I was trying to get away from someone because I thought they were homosexual. It turned out that they weren't, they just wanted the gospel explained more clearly! In dreams, homosexuality can be symbolic of believers that won't have anything to do with those in other denominations. They refuse to love any but their own kind! This was told to Rick Joyner in a vision. So in my dream, God was warning me not to avoid contact with Christians of denominations that are exclusive in their views. I shouldn't assume that I understand them, and can write them off!

Positive: perseverance. Actually, I prefer the famous Akiane's meaning for orange: thoughtfulness! An example: I was shown a candle representing my writings. It was on a lampstand, and when the candle was picked up, it was chained to the lampstand with a transparent orange chain. A voice said, "It provides natural light". If you think about lighting, all the experts agree that 'natural' light is the best for your eyes!

Negative: stubbornness. An example: I saw a tiny, orange spider on the tip of my finger. A voice said, "Can you tackle this problem in the right side of the body? Can you talk about it?" Later, I looked up 'right side of the brain vs left side'. The right side is logical, and is good at maths, and at handling routine tasks. The left side is intuitive and creative, and is good at handling novel situations. Maybe this is the division between those who are chosen to teach and those who are chosen to prophesy!

Positive: wisdom, anointing, power, the blood of Christ. An example: I saw a man walking along, carrying two books. They were both bound in red leather, obviously a set. I asked if I could look at them. One was the Bible, and the other was a book of prophecies issued during the Church age. Notice that they weren't published in one volume! Even though they both contain God's wisdom, denoted by the red covers, the book of prophecies is not equal to the Bible in authority! Therefore, it must be printed as a separate volume. This is not to denigrate God's Word as revealed through those prophets, but to enable us to easily protect ourselves from the false prophets that, inevitably, are sent to undermine our trust in the true ones.

Negative: war, anger, an antichrist or the devil. Some examples: one of the four Horseman in the book of Revelation is on a red horse, and his job is to bring war to the earth. I was sitting on the roof of a church, and at the other end I saw a big, muscular man who was bright red. He was wearing nothing but a pair of Speedo's (skimpy swimmers). A smallish young woman embraced him, and his Speedo's were torn asunder by the resultant effect, which I shall not describe! I turned to someone who was sitting beside me, and said, "It's shameful". I think this dream depicts the exposure of sexual sin in the churches as the Lord cleanses them in preparation for the Great Harvest. He wants to kick out the predators before bringing in heaps of extra people! "Judgement starts with the House of God."

Positive: emotions, especially love. In a dream, I saw a sweet-natured, lovely, blonde, blue-eyed lady I know, and she represented the Bride of Christ. She was dressed in magenta! In another dream, I saw a little girl playing in the sand on a beach. She, too, was dressed in magenta. Pressed into the sand behind her, where she couldn't see, was an alarm clock! Time is running out! Jesus' return is NOT five hundred years away! It will happen in our lifetime! In fact, Richard Sigmund, a Messianic Jew who had a brief death experience in 1974, was told that he would still be alive on the earth when the Lord Jesus comes to collect His people! And Richard was born in 1941!

Negative: hatred. I have never seen this in a dream, so I'm taking this meaning on hearsay.

Positive: royalty, authority.

Negative: false rule, usurped authority. It is also a color which is associated with lust.

Positive: revelation. An example: In a dream, I saw some people watching TV whilst eating a meal. One girl commented on the program they were watching, and then took a sip from a blue cup. It can also symbolise communion.

Negative: sadness, depression. I have never seen this in a dream, but it is an obvious use of the color.

Cyan is light blue. I have actually seen two different light blues in dreams! The first color is the color you see when you look up on a sunny day. This symbolises the presence of God. I have also seen a pale blue, like the color close to the horizon. This pale blue represents the will of God. Example: I have seen this color on an angel's garments, & I think he was an angel of healing.

Negative: headstrong - apparently! I have never seen light blue used in a negative sense.

Positive: growth, conscience, equipment for spiritual warfare. Example: in one dream, I was being driven somewhere, and I looked down, and I had army shoelaces in my shoes!

Negative: naivety, sickness, jealousy, death. The fourth horseman in Rev. 6:7,8 is Death, and his color is "chloros", which is pale green.

Positive: humility, mercy.

Negative: humanism, worldliness, low self esteem. For example: in a dream in which God was showing me what an old church building is good for, I was sitting cross-legged on the floor. I had a Siamese cat on my lap, but the cat was brown all over! It lay as if asleep for a while, then its color suddenly came right. I think it means that some people who come to church need to be in a place where they are accepted. Eventually, their low self esteem will be replaced with a more accurate view of who they are: a child of God!

Positive: humility, stealth. Some examples: in one dream I discovered was wearing black socks, a reminder to clothe myself in humility! In another dream, I saw a girl from church depicted as a black cat. She is a very subtle person, and definitely hates being noticed, except when she chooses, so the color was for her stealth! Maybe that's not the right word. Quietness? Diffidence? Hang it, I'll stick with stealth!

Negative: wordliness, evil, occult, death. Example: in a dream, I saw three kittens playing. They represented a family I know. One was gold, one was white and one was black. These three all go to church. A fourth member is not a church goer, and he wasn't even in the picture! The gold one represented the one that is in paid work for the church. The white one represented the one that is an active follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, but is in a secular job. The black one goes to church, but never reads the Bible, doesn't go to any group and never mentions God!

Symbolism: the Essentials

God tends to employ symbolism in dreams, so learning the meaning of the symbols is essential if you are to undertand what He is trying to say. Why does He use symbols? The answer couln't be simpler! He is a creative person, and He loves doing creative things! Much of His symbolism comes straight out of the Bible, but He can also use symbols, sayings and music from your national background, and also from pop culture. He may even use references that only you will understand!

Next blog I'll list the meaning of numbers.

It's a tank, not a bulldozer

If you receive a dream which you believe is from God, you need to keep the following bits of advice in mind:
  • Your dream is not a new piece of Scripture! I asked the Lord about this, and I suddenly saw a Bible reference, "1 Cor 12'. I looked it up, and verse 28 says, "In the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers". This is a hierarchy of authority for the Word of God! It can be issued from any of those three, but the publications from the apostles (meaning the writers of the New Testament) are automatically of a higher authority than any from a modern Christian prophet or teacher. Thus, no modern writing should be regarded as equal with Scripture.
  • You are not necessarily called to have a prophetic career. Take Joseph, Mary's betrothed, for instance. You know, the one who taught our Lord Jesus carpentry. He received prophetic messages, but he was not instructed to pass on a message. Therefore, he was not a prophet. You should assume that the dream is for your benefit alone, unless God badgers you to share it.
  • Take your own interpretations with a pinch of salt! The following happens all too often, "Nice dream, shame about the interpretation." Your understanding of a dream can change as events unfold, or after you have received more dreams on the subject. Or after you have chatted with someone who doesn't share the same blind spots as you!
  • If you see someone you know, they may be there just as a symbol! Don't feel that you have to tell someone about a dream they were in. You'll probably just freak them out!
  • Respect your church's organisational structure. Don't think you can ignore the pastor and take over! God has put him in charge, and not you, and God doesn't make mistakes! John Paul Jackson offers a very insightful DVD, 'Becoming a Prophetic Community'.
  • Many dreams are instructional rather than predictive.
  • Many provide insight into something that just happened, either in your life, or further afield.
  • Many are God's comment on the success or otherwise of something you have just done.
  • Many are an attempt by God to get you to drop a plan you've just made!
  • Many are hints about how you can improve what you're doing.
  • Many are replies to something you've prayed about! YES! For decades I have longed for the other side of the prayer conversation, and guess what - it is available! Through dreams! I loooove Joel 2:28!
  • Remember that if God is sending you dreams, you're learning to drive a tank, not a bulldozer. Do not drive over people as if they're not there. Read 1 Cor 13! Remind yourself of the fruits of the Spirit, too (Gal. 5:22-26). Please please please read Rick Joyner's wonderful and very helpful books, 'The Final Quest', 'The Call' and 'The Torch and the Sword'! They say heaps about how to get the job done without damaging people. And then add 'The Harvest' as well, so you get a proper overview of where we are in history, and what is about to happen.
Next blog entry, I will start talking about symbolism: God's dream language!

God Sends Dreams

I was brought up believing that the gift of prophecy died out with the apostles. Later, I was told that many Muslims are converted to faith in Jesus Christ when they meet Him in a dream! Isn't that prophecy? One day I stumbled upon 1 Thess. 5:19-22, and I read, 'Do not put out the Spirit's fire: do not treat prophecies with contempt!' Suddenly I realised that prophecy was not supposed to die out, and that Paul had warned us against triggering the trap that would extinguish it! And guess what we did! We fell into the trap! We ourselves extinguished the gift of prophecy!

In 1 Cor. 14, Paul plays down the importance of the gift of tongues. He says that it is the least useful of all the gifts, and he contrasts it with the gift of prophecy. By doing this, he implies that prophecy is the most useful gift! It is at the other end of the usefulness scale to the gift of tongues! Furthermore, he says, 'Seek eagerly the gift of prophecy.'

Why does the Bible say, 'Seek eagerly the gift of prophecy', but 'do not let many of you become teachers' (James 3:1)? I think it is because a prophet is on a short leash, being little more than a messenger. A teacher, on the other hand, is on a long leash, roaming at will through the Word of God, prayerfully deciding what to teach next. You need to have the most capable, the most mature and the most intelligent person in the teaching role, but anyone can carry a message! Therefore, 'Be eager to prophesy!'

Look at the adverse effect of treating prophecies with contempt: the Spirit's fire is put out! How many churches over the centuries have been drab, cold places populated by people who don't believe that they can do much for the kingdom of God? What does a church look like when the fire of the Holy Spirit is burning there? You know what the answer is! You have seen it for years, either up close or at a distance, but you've seen it! That is the place where people get saved, people get changed, and people get emotional about God, and how wonderful He is! There is no coldness there!

Why are we fearful?

Very many Christians are fearful of the gift of prophecy, and God has shown me why this is. It is because we fail to trust God. This is why we find it so hard to obey Paul's advice in 1 Thess. 5:19-22, 'Test everything, hold onto what is good, and reject everything that is bad.' We find it most comforting to not test anything at all. Some brave but misguided people do make an effort, but they are fooled by their fear: they make a pretense of looking at a prophecy, but they are really searching for some excuse, any excuse, to reject it! If you look for their list of prophecies to 'hold onto', they don't have any! They zealously go here and there, trying to destroy every prophet they find, assuming that no prophet could ever actually have a prophecy from God! These people usually have an amazing fountain of bitterness and hatred pouring out of them, which I think is diagnostic of the true origin of their prophecy-killing 'ministry'.

True obedience to God in this area requires courage, and the adoption of the Goldilocks Attitude To Prophecy. What is the Goldilocks Attitude? It is this: your attitude towards prophecy should not be too soft, which is to accept everything, or too hard, which is to reject everything, but instead should be juuuust right!

I actually found that I could not bring myself to test any prophecy at all, even though I had accepted, theologically, that there were modern Christian prophecies out there that were worth reading. I had to repent of the sin of unbelief in this area first! Only then could I successfully engage my courage, and read a prophecy to test it. Until I repented, I was not able to obey 1 Thess. 5:19-22! In other words, there is real, evil spiritual power behind the fear that Christians feel towards the gift of prophecy. This spiritual power is enabled by the simple act of choosing not to believe what the passage says. This gives the Devil permission to send a spirit of fear to influence us whenever we consider the idea of prophecy in the modern church. Jesus must wash you clean of it, or it will still control your actions in this area!

Please prayerfully and humbly (before God, that is) consider what I have said. And then consider Joel 2:28, where God promised to pour out dreams and visions upon young and old, male and female. In Acts chapter 2, Peter declared the start of the Joel 2 era! We are still in that era! Read Matthew 7:7-11, 'Ask and you will receive,' etc. 'Be eager to prophesy!'

Finally, why did I call this blog, "Tank Driving School for Christians"? In a dream, God showed me believers who were learning to interpret dreams: they were learning to drive heavy tanks!

Next blog I will talk about limitations and ettiquette.
